Get Ready for Spring

1. Time for a spring clean ⛅️

Now is a good time to give your car a thorough going-over, washing off all the grime and road salt (which is corrosive and can cause rust if left on bodywork).
Use a pressure washer to clean the underside – but be careful with delicate areas and don’t spray rubber areas or oil seals. It is best to hand wash the main body of the car as pressure washers can remove the paint if used to closely to the paint work.

2. Windows 🌫

Sort out your windows by giving them a good clean outside and in – they steam up easier if they’re dirty. Just use some washing-up liquid and it’s job done.

3. Wipers

Spring is also the best time to check (and replace, if necessary) the blades on your windscreen wipers, after they’ve been working overtime during the winter.
If they don’t need replacing, clean them to avoid damaging your windscreen.

4. Bugging out

Get ready for the onslaught of flies and airborne bugs by ensuring that your washer fluids are topped up.
It’s also a good idea to clean your windscreen and headlights regularly to get rid of those stubborn insect carcasses.

5. Don’t get frozen out

Even though temperatures are rising (theoretically), top up your anti-freeze because it contains corrosion inhibitors, which will help you avoid expensive engine damage.

6. Tyred out

If you have winter tyres fitted, now’s the time to replace them with regular summer tyres, checking pressures and tread at the same time.

7. Align of duty

After coping with all those worn road surfaces and potholes over the winter, spring is also a good time to check the alignment of your car’s wheels and tyres.

8. Unconditional

Before it gets pressed into service during the forthcoming long, hot summer (we live in hope), it’s a good time to service your car’s air conditioning – especially if it smells a bit stale when you switch it on, which is a sign of mould building up in the condenser.

9. Say hay

If you’re unlucky enough to suffer from hay fever, but lucky enough to have a pollen filter in your car, spring is the time to check it and replace it.

10. The future’s so bright…

🕶

It’s time to put the sunglasses back in the car. At this time of year, the sun can be quite low, especially in the morning and evening, so a pair of shades is useful to have to hand.
